The Mediterranean Motorway, A-7, is a motorway in Spain owned by the “Red de Carreteras del Estado”. It starts in Algeciras and ends in Barcelona.
The Albuñol – Variante de Adra section of the motorway is 11,0 km long and was opened in 2007.
TORROJA INGENIERIA did the Detailed Design of the structures of that section, including 15 structures (underpasses, overpasses and structures at intersections) and 3 special viaducts to cross ravines in the path of the motorway.
The most remarkable structures included in this Detailed Design are the Huarea Viaduct (290 m long and 60 m high), La Alcazaba Viaduct (204 m long and 50 m high) and the Guainos Viaduct (190 m long and 40 m high).
Some of these solutions were changed during construction. TORROJA INGENIERIA produced the new detailed design project of the Huarea Viaduct, which was finally built. This viaduct is composed of two twin girders, each structure is 301,5 m long and divided into three spans; 90,8+120,0+90,8 m long. It was built as a balanced cantilever using launching equipment for precast segments.
