This viaduct carries the Atlantic Highway AP-9 (Padrón – Caldas de Reis section), and crosses a valley near the village of Valga. There are two separate bridges, made of precast double T-girders. The overall lengths are 325,0 m for the left carriageway (10×32,50 m spans) and 357,5 m for the right carriageway (11×32,50 spans).
The cross section consists of 5 double T-girders 1,85 m deep and the top concrete slab 0,20 m thick. The width of the deck is 11,50 m, and both girders are separated by 1,0 m.
The piers are rectangular hollow sections, with a pier cap (“PI” section) on the top. The bearings are set on these pier caps. A deep foundation is needed, made of 4 Ø1,50 m concrete piles.
The abutments are a conventional system of front wall-wingwalls made of reinforced concrete. The position of the abutment E1 is different for the right and left carriageway. They are connected by an RSS wall between them. Additionally, a 250 m long wall was built for the right abutment. E2 abutments are connected for both carriageways with transverse step footing.
