The bridge crosses over the Ebro River near the village of Riba-Roja in Tarragona. It´s a single structure made of prestressed concrete, 350,0 m long, and has 3 spans of 100,0+150,0+100,0 m.
The total width of the deck is 11,0 m. The platform has two 3.5 m lanes, 0.5 m wide hard shoulders and 1.50 m wide lateral sidewalks.
The cross section of the deck is a prestressed concrete box section. The depth of the deck varies from 3.0 m at the centre of the main span and at the abutments to 7.46 m at the connection of the deck with the piers.
The width of the bottom slab of the box section is 6.0 m and the upper slab is completed with both lateral cantilevers 2,30 m long. The thickness of the web is 0,40 m and the bottom slab is 0.22 m thick at the centre of the main span and 1.0 m at the piers.
The deck is simply supported at P1 using sliding bearings allowing longitudinal movement, and it is fixed at P2. Both piers are made of two “V” shaped walls. Each wall is 7,6 m wide and has a variable depth. The walls are fixed at the foundation for pier P1 and 2,70 m above it at pier P2.
The deck was built as a balanced cantilever using movable scaffolding except for the 25,55 m end sections, which were built using conventional falsework.
