This overpass is located over the A-42 Highway, Madrid-Toledo (STA 17,8), in Fuenlabrada (Madrid). It was designed for daily truck traffic, improving the connection and access to Cobo Calleja and La Cantueña industrial parks. It has two lanes, hard shoulders and barriers with a total deck width of 9,50 m (11,50 m wide at the access ramps). The bridge has a 37,34 m central span, to overpass the A-42 dual carriageway and service roads. No traffic interruption was possible during the construction, so a precast beam design was chosen for the bridge. The overall length of the structure was finally 194,0 m.

The deck is made of precast pre-stressed concrete U-girders with variable depths from 1,30 to 1,92 m. The piers are also precast concrete elements 1,0 m deep, and of variable widths from the straight section of 1,5 m up to 3,0 m at the top. The transverse shape is hyperbolic, and 2 final support struts are created, where the bearings are positioned. No large excavations were possible because of the presence of the A-42 so deep foundations were used for the pier and abutment foundations.

Due to the bridge’s urban location aesthetic aspects were considered during the structural design. Hyperstatic haunched girders and “palm tree shaped” piers have a positive aesthetic impact. The design of the finish of the wall on Cobo-Calleja street was also done with an aesthetic focus.
